Aluminocoquimbite
Aluminocoquimbite[1]
- Chemical formula (FeAl(SO4)3 × 9H2O) The mineral is visually indistinguishable from Cokimbite. Syngony trigonal, hexagonal-scalenohedral symmetry class 3-m (3-2/m). Space group: P3-1c. Unit cell parameters: a = 10.7065(7) Å, c = 17.3077(11) Å, a: c = 1 : 1.617. V = 1718.2 Å3 (calculated from the unit cell). Colorless to pale pink. Glass luster. Density (meas.) = 2.03. Single axis (+).
Named for composition and resemblance to cokimbite.
Morphology
Forms tabular or short-prismatic crystals up to 0.5 mm. The prevailing surface forms are pinacoids and hexagonal prisms of the first and second order.
Location
- Original locality: among products of low-temperature fumaroles (< 100 °C) Grotta dell'Allume, Porto Levante, Vulcano Island, Lipari, Eolie Islands (Aeolian Islands), Messina Province, Sicily, Italy).
