Alzheimerfonden (the Swedish Alzheimer's Foundation) is a Swedish non-profit organization distributing funds to research targeting Alzheimer's disease and other dementia related diseases.[1][2][3] The organization was founded in 1988.[4] Every year, Alzheimerfonden organizes Alzheimerloppet, an exercise race where companies, organizations and individuals can run or bike while raising money for the foundation.[5][6]

In December 2018, Alzheimerfonden received an anonymous donation equivalent to about $34,000 USD which was rejected, and later destroyed, by the central bank of Sweden, Riksbanken. The reasoning behind the decision was due to the origin of the donation not being traceable while consisting of currency no longer valid in public circulation since 2017.[7][8][9] Alzheimerfonden's secretary later commented on the situation with it "not feeling good" as the money was meant for research.[10]

Alzheimerfonden is one of the founders of FINGERS Brain Health Institute, a non-profit foundation focused on advancing research within "healthy brain aging and the implementation of dementia prevention".[11][12][13]
