Overview[edit]

Evie wants to be a normal girl by suppressing her illness. She's almost off her meds when she starts going to parties and events that enable her illness to reappear. She enters into a world of struggles linking to relationships with teenage boys. Establishing a 'spinster club'[3] with her two friends Lottie and Amber gives Evie a new way to concentrate on life and a way to let out her anger. What follows is a date with a boy, which goes awfully when she refuses to sleep with him and leads to an increase of her worries. Leading to Evie struggling to admit to her friends what is wrong with her.

Feminist Readings[edit]

Am I Normal Yet has constant themes of female friendship and feminism throughout. There is a real sense of sisterhood between Evie and her friends, Lottie and Amber.[4] They meet up to talk about the portrayal of women in films and misogynistic language. Representing three teenage girls who are aware of how disappointing and tangled society is.[5] Bourne identifies herself as a feminist and wrote a piece in 2017 explaining her reasons and why feminism is important to her.[6]
