Amadou Gallo Fall is a Senegalese professional basketball executive and President of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), Africa's premier men's basketball league.[1][2][3] From 2010 to 2019, he was Vice President of NBA and Managing Director of NBA Africa.[4][5]

Early life and education

Fall was born in Senegal.[6] He completed his university degree in the United States and graduated from the University of the District of Columbia, in Washington, D.C..[7][8]

Career

He played college basketball for the University's team, the Firebirds.[9] Fall joined the Dallas Mavericks and served as the Director of Player Personnel and Vice President of International Affairs for 12 years while founding and overseeing SEED Project, (Sports for Education and Economic Development), for the development of sports in African youth.[10][11] The organization aims to provide opportunities for student-athletes to further their education through basketball. He also launched in 2002 SEED Academy, the first basketball student-athlete academy in Africa.[12] He became a member of the NBA and FIBA's Basketball Without Borders and worked on its launch in the African continent in 2003.[4] He also worked for the Senegalese Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as the Senegalese Basketball Federation.[13] The national team he assembled won the 1997 African Championship and participated in the 1998 FIBA World Championship in Greece.[14][15]

Fall joined National Basketball Association  in 2010 as the Vice-president and opened the NBA Africa office in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was appointed as the Managing Director. In May 2019, he was the first person ever to be selected as the President of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) by the NBA. The BAL is the first league operating outside of North America by the NBA.[16]
