Amanda Sorensen (born 24 November 2002) is an American professional drifter from Nevada who competes in Formula Drift. Sorensen also competes in Extreme E , competing in the NO.99 Chip Ganassi GMC Hummer EV.
Karting[edit]
Amanda Sorensen's passion for motorsports began at a young age. Sorensen, a second generation racer, is no stranger to speed. Under her father, Randy Sorensen, a 20 year veteran of Off Road has since passed his passion to Amanda and her two brothers. She started out in BMX, and quickly developed a natural talent for the competitive racing atmosphere. At the young age of 9 she was given the opportunity to go behind the wheel. From that moment on, the hunger for seat time began to gain traction. Sorensen had started her driving career strong, placing 3rd in the CalState Karting Championship in 2010, 1st in the LVKC Championship Rotax Micromax Class in 2011, 2nd in the LVKC Championship Micromax Class in 2012, and 2nd in the LVKC Championship Minimax Class in 2012.
Off-Road racing[edit]
Sorensen furthered her driving career by taking a leap into a new racing environment, Short course off-road racing. She adapted quickly and steadily progressed through the ranks, participating in various classes. She started her venture in Short course off-road racing in the Modified Kart Division, known to produce talent, racing along side drivers such as Sheldon Creed, Hailie Deegan, Christopher Polvoorde, and Mitchell DeJong. One class was not enough for Sorensen, in 2016 she began doing double duty racing the Modified Karts Class and Polaris RZR Class. She became the first female ever to win a championship in a SXS Class that year, just at the young age of 14. Shortly after the championship win the Sorensen Team made a transition to longer form dirt racing, Desert Racing, in 2017. Competing in the World Off Road Championship Series (WORCS) she took home many podiums across many different classes in the series. Sorensen occasionally races a Trophy Truck in the bigger races such as Mint 400, King of the Hammers when it fits in her busy schedule. She demonstrated her commitment and dedication to the sport, constantly improving her skills and gaining recognition among her peers and fans in the industry.
Sorensen had a huge career transition in 2018 pursuing Drifting, leaving the dirt scene and moving to the asphalt. After a few years away from the dirt Sorensen had returned in 2023, announcing her ride in Extreme E behind the wheel of the No.99 Chip Ganassi GMC Hummer EV. She made a remarkable debut qualifying 1st in Round 1 of Extreme E Desert X Prix.
Drifting[edit]
In 2018 Sorensen made a huge career transition from Off-road racing to Drifting. She was highly influenced by her brothers passion for this sport, and quickly began to overtake the drifting scene as the "Sorensen Sibling Duo". She learned to drift in a stock BMW E46 M3 that she shared with her brother, Branden Sorensen. Taking turns burning tires at their local grassroot drift events near home, the siblings began to draw attention with their fast progression. Sorensen decided to begin a Pro Car drift build with hopes to start her career in drifting and compete in Formula Drift.
In 2019 Sorensen took her first step into competition, registering as the youngest competitor in the Pro-Am Drift Series - The Drift League. She took her first drift podium at the House of Drift Irwindale Speedway her rookie year. As the competition year came to an end she ranked high enough in points to move her to the next level of competition, Pro Spec Formula Drift.
Sorensen has proven herself as a competitive driver in the Pro Spec Championship ranking the highest female in the drifting sport across the world. She is determined to be the first female to podium in the series and will not stop until she earns the title.
Personal Life[edit]
Sorensen is a girl of many talents, growing up she never had a brake. Sorensen competitively competed in Figure Skating from the age of 8 - 17, she played Hockey from the ages of 7-12, competed in Wakesurfing and Wakeboarding at ages 10-12, Club Volleyball from 13-16, and played many instruments including the Piano, Harp, & Cello. To stay active she enjoys Karting, Mountain Biking, and Motorcross with her brothers in her free time.
Sorensen is an Early Graduate at the age of 16, graduating with an Advanced Honors Diploma and jumping straight into college. She attended Utah Valley University for 3 years studying Buisness and Construction.
