Reception

The film received mixed reviews from audiences and critics, with a current score of 3.9/10 on IMDB.[6] Voices from the Balcony gave the film two stars out of five, calling it "... beautifully shot but utterly safe and predictable. And if you like TV shows or want something you can play in the background or watch with the kids then this should suit you. If you’re looking for an actual action film you’ll be disappointed."[7] Sabina Dana Plasse of Film Threat wrote, "...an underlying theme of saving the rainforest and stopping the deforestation of the land for cattle is not fully understood. As a result, it doesn’t hold enough interest, unlike the actions of Machado and Silva and the efforts of Francisco. But still, thanks to some decent acting, the gorgeous cinematography, and a crackling main plot, Amazon Queen is more riveting and engrossing than not."[8] Alan Ng, also of Film Threat, wrote in a more positive review, "If you approach Amazon Queen as an indie action movie set in a beautiful location, then it’s easy to overlook its flaws and find the fun in the story."[9]
