American Canine Association
The American Canine Association also known as ACA is one of the largest registries of purebred dogs in the United States. Established in 1984, ACA is also considered America's largest veterinary health tracking canine registry. ACA has sanctioned dog shows in USA, Canada, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. The ACA also has a nationally recognized rescue team and is active in legislative issues that affect the canine industry, including the support of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
On September 9, 2002,[1] ACA Rescue Team was recognized by US President, George W Bush, for their rescue efforts after the September 11, 2001 attacks.
This canine registry recognizes and accepts other registries pedigrees and certificates, including AKC, FCI, UKC, APRI, CKC, among others. The AKC will also research an ACA certificate (you need 3 generation pedigree) if both parents are AKC registered. If research shows AKC parentage, you can register via AKC with the normal $30 registration fee. Many breeders use ACA because of the lesser costs associated with registering a litter and microchipping.
Dog registration[edit]
To register a purebred canine with the ACA, the canine's parents must be registered with the ACA. If the canine has a foreign registry lineage or parents are not registered with the ACA, you must submit a 3 generation pedigree from the current registry, along with the canine or litter certificate from the current registry. The registration of a canine in the ACA does not certify the quality or health of the animal. Only a certified veterinarian may verify the health of the canine. You can also submit the Health Certification Form signed by a certified veterinarian and this information will be included in your registration record, to help breeders and owners maintain healthy canine colonies.
ACA Veterinary Health[edit]
The American Canine Association encourages all professional breeders to have their breeding colonies certified free of congenital defects by licensed veterinarians. Eliminating many common genetic disorders improves both the health of canine populations as well as the industry itself.
ACA's blue ribbon panel of nationally recognized veterinary medicine doctors serves as the advisory board for implementing health tracking policies, identifying procedures for addressing health problems, and advising ACA on canine health and behavior issues.
ACA Dog Shows and Events[edit]
ACA have supported professional clubs and organizations with sanctioned dog shows and seminars. Many of these organizations include Professional Breeder Associations around US, PPDBA, MPBA, IAPBA, PPA, MNPBA and ABCDA. These organizations offer seminars to educate dog breeders in USDA regulations, health and animal care. ACA also sanctions national events and championships for the American Ringsport Federation,[2] Canadian Ring Sport Association,[3] the Caribbean Dog Sport Club.
