American Career Institute (ACI) was a training school that offered programs in allied health, digital media, information technology, software development and database administration. It was formerly known as the Americare School of Allied Health and was formerly affiliated with the Computer Career Institute. It rented space from Johns Hopkins University and had eight campuses located in various cities within the states of Massachusetts and Maryland.
The American Career Institute officially closed its doors on January 9, 2013.[1] On November 21 of that year the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Attorney General Martha Coakley filed a suit against the school, alleging that it falsified grades and attendance records to qualify for millions of dollars in federal aid.[2][3] ACI was found to be a predatory, for-profit institution, and students who had used federal student loans to finance their attendance were relieved of their debt.[4]
