American Championship Wrestling (ACW) was a Memphis-based promotion that was founded in 1998 by promoters Chris Rose and Dwayne Huckaba.[1][circular reference]. The two ran shows primarily in the Mid-South with talent such as Sid Vicious, Handsome Jimmy Valiant and Tommy Rich. The pair was also instrumental in bringing new talent into the sport such as Kevin Fertig[2] and gave established wrestlers such as Sid Vicious a chance to work on new gimmicks, such as his "Pride of Brotherhood"[3].
In 2000, Huckaba went on to form Deep South Wrestling and local wrestler Jeff Droke came aboard to work with Rose. ACW would run house shows in conjunction with Memphis-based Power Pro Wrestling as well as promoting ACW shows at the historic The New Daisy Theatre in Memphis[4]
In Summer 2002, ACW picked up the defunct Kick Ass Wrestling (KAW) brand and ran KAW shows in Memphis with the assistance of David Price (Motley Cruz) and Bud Cox (Dr. Bud). KAW became Memphis Championship Wrestling during 2002 and switched production to Dyersburg, Tennessee[5]
On January 22, 2003, Droke was shot eight times by Billy Glenn Jackson[6]. Soon afterwards, ACW dropped promotions.[7]
