American Dreams Records is an American independent record label founded by Jordan Reyes and based in Chicago.[1] The label specializes in experimental music, including free jazz, ambient music, noise music, contemporary classical and post-rock.
American Dreams has been featured in Bandcamp,[1] the Chicago Reader,[2] and The Wire. The label is known for including limited-run custom items with special editions of releases, including bars of soap, seed packets, journals, posters, picture books, and album jackets that function as speakers. American Dreams maintains two imprints: American Decline, for heavier releases, and Mended Dreams, for releases associated with American experimental musician claire rousay.
History
Reyes founded American Dreams to release music by Chicago experimental music band ONO.[1] The label released its first two albums in 2019 and released several albums in 2020, including albums by evicshen, ONO, Brett Naucke, Reyes, and the Baldi/Gerycz Duo, featuring Dylan Baldi and Jayson Gerycz of Cloud Nothings. Also in 2020, American Dreams announced its black metal imprint, American Decline Records. In 2021, the label released music from Jon Mueller, Patrick Shiroishi, claire rousay, Cameron Knowler, and Eli Winter, and also announced an imprint, Mended Dreams, to release solo and collaborative works by rousay.
