History[edit]
American Lamprecht Transport was founded in 1966 in New York to help assist the parent company, Lamprecht Transport AG, a family-owned business based in Switzerland, with Swiss traffic to the USA.
The parent company, headquartered in Basel, was founded by Adolf Lamprecht not long after World War II in 1945. The first major transport was done by road through war-torn Germany in August 1945, taking 90 tons of fresh fish by truck from Denmark to Switzerland.[2] This Swiss transport company rapidly expanded into Western European countries. In 1965, the company opened offices in Geneva and the United States. After Adolf Lamprecht’s death in 1971, Adolf Lamprecht Junior took on the management of the company. Then in 1991, the company was passed on to a third generation family member, Thomas Lamprecht. Thomas continued to lead the expansion of Lamprecht Transport AG with yet more bases and new subsidiaries. [3]
Not long after the office in New York opened in 1966, this business grew from handling import air on the Swiss Trade to handling numerous trade lanes along with ocean freight and special cargo. Hence, a few years later in 1968, the company was incorporated in the same state of New York.[4]
In 1975, American Lamprecht opened its 2nd branch in Chicago, IL.
By 1981, operations expanded to the Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina area with the opening of another office location.
In 1998, the company opened a branch in Los Angeles making it the 4th location and also its first office on the west coast.
In 2010, American Lamprecht expanded to the Gulf port of Houston, TX. Within eight years of operating, American Lamprecht acquired Senrac Transportation Services in 2014 as well as Benchmark Worldwide Transport to expand their operations in Houston.
In 2016, American Lamprecht further expanded their operations by opening its 6th office in Baltimore with the acquisition of Seabridge International, a freight forwarding and customs brokerage company that started in 1991 and was owned for 25 years by Vernon Martin.[5] [6] This same year a 7th office was added in Miami as well with the stock purchase of AmCar Freight. The merge happened officially on September 26, 2016, and AmCar’s name was changed to Amcar-Lamprecht. [7]
In 2017, American Lamprecht opened its eighth branch office in Denver, CO to support their Swiss clients by acquiring Denver Customs Brokerage. This new location would handle business to and from Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Nebraska, Kansas, and Utah. The Denver office is managed by customs broker, Lisa Rasmussen.[8]
In 2018, the company again ventured to the west coast and opened a branch in San Francisco to support and assist in trade at the port of Oakland.
