His father, Akbar Hashmi, is a registered IAS officer, and as a child he would sometimes accompany him, which gave Amir a sense of what was going on in the inner workings of India. His aunt, through his mother, is a well-known artist in Bollywood, Zarina Wahab. He had his early education in BSP School in Dallirajhara and later attended approximately 17 schools in his school career due to his father’s transfers. He grew up under the influence of his grandfather’s Persian & Urdu poems, and he started stage performances since childhood. He graduated from St. Vincent Pallotti College, Raipur, and obtained his Sangeet Visharad (8 years of classical vocal music training) from the Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya and a Master’s in Mass Communication from Kushabhau Thakre Patrakarita Avam Jansanchar Vishwavidyalaya.
