Amir Jaffer

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Amir Jaffer began exploring the world of filmmaking with his father’s video camera at the age of thirteen. He realized his childhood dream when he began working as an independent producer, cinematographer and editor in San Francisco in 2005. Influenced by filmmakers Rainer Ferner Fasbinder, Pedro Almodovar and Deepa Mehta, Amir focused on social issues that intrigued him and which ranged from gender identity to domestic violence to sexuality. After watching Orson Welles’ classic CITIZEN KANE, Amir was inspired to play with images using camera angles, lighting techniques and shadows. Amir’s artistic vision continues to evolve, as he incorporates the aesthetics of the mainstream and merges it with elements of New Wave Cinema.

He has produced documentaries, features, short films, music videos, branding videos, and a 15 episode series for the South Asian community in the U.S. called Aarzu-e-Mann (What the heart desires), which premiered on Amazon Prime December 2017. Amir's second Series, Hiraeth, is streaming on Amazon (U.S.) and Vimeo-on-demand (Worldwide). His 3rd series Strings Attached is slated for Winter 2021=2022 release.

Amir also founded the SF Queer Film Fest, which was held in San Francisco in July 2021 and attended by 500+ audience despite of the pandemic. SF Queer Film Fest is the second LGBTQ+ fesival in San Francisco, which already has another LGBTQ+ Festival running since 1977. Amir created another LGBTQ+ festival because there was a need for a second festival that doesn't support the status quo and provides an alternate platform to creative and out-of-the-box thinkers and filmmakers.
