Professor Amit Dutta joined the Department of Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology in 2003[1].He had obtained his doctoral degree from the Jadavpur University in 2000 while working at the Condensed Matter Physics group of the Saha Institute for Nuclear Physics, Kolkata. For his Ph.D. he studied Phase Transitions in Ising models and Rotor models in the Quantum realm. This work assumed the presence of quenched disorder in the system. In the interveing years, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the Max-Plank-Institut fur Physik Komplexer Systeme, Dresden and the Institut fur Theoretishe Physik, Universitat Wurzburg.

In recent years, he extended his research interests from Phase Transition to Non Equilibrium Dynamics of Many body systems and Quantum information, while still remaining in the Quantum realm.

Professor Dutta was a great collaborator in Scientific publications and authored books[2] with colleagues.[3] Amongst the important positions Dr.Dutta achieved/held in his professional career, a few are listed below

    • A senior associate of Abdus Salam ICTP, Trieste, Italy[4].He was a regular on the panelist for Workshop's and other events at the ICTP[5].
    • Member of the Editorial Board of the European Physical Journal B[6].
    • An elected fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru[7].

Professor Dutta passed away in January 2023[8] while still serving as a Professor in Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur in India.
