Amjad Atallah is the managing director of Doha Debates, a solutions-focused global debate series launched in December 2018.[1] He previously served as a news executive, human rights activist and humanitarian.[2]

Biography[edit]

A native of Gary, Indiana[3], Atallah received Bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Virginia and a Juris Doctor degree from American University's Washington College of Law. He is a member of the New York Bar.[4]

Before joining Doha Debates, Atallah served as Al Jazeera America's editor-in-chief and Al Jazeera English's bureau chief for the Americas. He also was part of the AJ+ launch team. Atallah was in senior roles with Al Jazeera 2011-2017.[2]

From 2008 to 2011, Atallah was director of the Middle East Task Force at the New America Foundation and co-editor of Foreign Policy magazine's Middle East Channel.[5]

In 1993, he co-founded Women for Women International, a non-profit humanitarian organization that helps and supports women survivors of war.[3]

In July 2018, Atallah was chosen to relaunch and lead Doha Debates, a production of Qatar Foundation.[6]
