AMKUS Rescue Systems is an American manufacturer of hydraulic and battery-powered rescue tools, including cutters, spreaders, combination tools, rams, and struts. Its products are used by fire departments, emergency response teams, and motorsports safety organizations.
History
AMKUS Rescue Systems was founded in 1987 by George Weigand. Initially focused on importing and distributing hydraulic rescue equipment, the company later began designing and manufacturing its own line of tools in the United States.
Products
AMKUS manufactures hydraulic and battery-powered rescue tools, including:
- Cutters – designed to cut through vehicle structures.
- Spreaders – used to separate or pry apart vehicle panels.
- Combination tools – combine cutting and spreading functions.
- Extension rams – used to create space in compacted vehicles.
Some tools, such as the ION series, are battery-powered, allowing more portability and faster deployment.[1]
Partnerships
AMKUS has partnered with motorsports organizations, including the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), supplying rescue tools for safety teams since at least 2014.[2]
Community contributions
The company has donated rescue tools to training institutions such as the Illinois Fire Service Institute to support education and preparation of emergency responders.[3]
