Amos Ilani (1938-2018) was a prominent figure in the Scouting movement in Israel and around the world. He joined the Hebrew Scouts Movement when he was 10 years old and went on to serve in a variety of leadership positions, including Chief Commissioner of the Israel Boy & Girl Scout Federation. He was also a founder and board member of the International Forum of Jewish Scouts.

Ilani was born in Jerusalem in 1938. He joined the Hebrew Scouts in 1948 and quickly rose through the ranks. He served as a troop leader, a unit leader, and a regional commissioner. In 2015, he was appointed Chief Commissioner of the Israel Boy & Girl Scout Federation,[1] a position he held for 2 years.

As volunteering in the national level of Scouting in Israel, Ilani oversaw a period of significant growth and expansion for the Scouting movement in Israel. He also played a key role in developing international cooperation between Scouting organizations around the world. In 1988, he was appointed Chairman of the Committee for Relations with the German Scouts Associations. He also served as a member of the board of directors of the Hebrew Scouts and as one of the founders and a member of the Board of the International Forum of Jewish Scouts (IFJS).

Ilani was a passionate advocate for Scouting and its values of friendship, cooperation, and service. He believed that Scouting could play a vital role in building a better world, and he dedicated his life to promoting the movement. He was awarded the Bronze Wolf, the highest distinction of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, in 2016.[2][3] He passed away in 2018 at the age of 80.[4]

Athena Fund[edit]

Amos Ilani was a key figure in the founding of the Athena Fund,[5][6] a nonprofit organization that provides laptops and other educational technology to underserved schools in Israel. He served as the organization's Operations & Logistics Manager from its founding in 2006 until 2016.

Ilani was a passionate advocate for educational equity, and he believed that every child deserved access to quality education, regardless of their socioeconomic status. He was instrumental in developing the Athena Fund's model of providing laptops and other educational technology to schools in need. Israeli Authority of Youth Exchanges[edit]

Scouts who participate in the seminar learn about the history and culture of the countries they will be visiting, and they practice their language skills. They also make new friends from all over the world.

The KSHARIM seminar is an important part of the Israeli Scouting movement. It helps Scouts to prepare for their international delegations, and it also helps them to develop the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in their future careers. The seminar is a testament to Amos Ilani's commitment to Scouting, and it is a fitting tribute to his memory.

The seminar is named after Amos Ilani since 2022 and it is the largest yearly Scouts training held in Israel with around 2,000 participants, taking place at the Israeli Scouts Ranch at the north of Israel near Ramat Yochanan.[10]
