Amos Zimmerman (Hebrew: עמוס צימרמן; born June 13, 1983) is an Israeli singer-songwriter and musician. He has released two albums and one EP and has toured in Israel, the United Kingdom and Germany. Zimmerman’s primary instruments are acoustic guitar, electric guitar and harmonica.
Musical career
Early years and debut album (2008-2011)
Zimmerman started playing the guitar at age 14 and studied music in high school. In 2007 he began writing music seriously and in June 2010 released his debut album with his then-backing band, the Riverband, entitled Amos Zimmerman & the Riverband.[1] Chris Belson reviewed the album on For Folk’s Sake, writing: “Some songs take from lazy, sun-baked slide-guitar Americana and seem to transfer you into a sleepy town of sun-soaked swampland America. But this almost lures you into a false sense of security when you start to hear the drive and intention of many of the tracks.”[2] The Riverband and Zimmerman parted ways soon after the album’s release, prompting Zimmerman to go on two month-long solo tours documented in two dedicated blogs, one in December 2010 in Israel and one in May 2011 in the United Kingdom.[3][4][5]
Focusing on Inga-Dingo and Safe Cube (2011-2017)
Upon returning from the UK, Amos was recruited to the psych-rock band Inga-Dingo as an electric guitarist, joining keyboardist and vocalist Doron Butnik and drummer Nimrod Gorovich.[6] He also formed the rock band Safe Cube with singer Lior Rodan and bass player Amitai Vilk.[7] Over a 6-year period, Inga-Dingo recorded and released two studio albums and one live album, with Zimmerman in the band, toured in Germany and completed a successful crowdfunding project for the band’s album, On Off, on which Zimmerman co-wrote lyrics for several songs.[8][9][10] Safe Cube’s debut album was released in 2016, and in 2017 Zimmerman left Inga-Dingo to focus on his solo career, while Safe Cube remained as an ongoing project, releasing their 2nd album in 2020.[11][12]
’Snapshot’, ’Lend Me Your Tears’ and resumed solo career (2017-present)
After parting from Inga-Dingo, Zimmerman resumed work on his second album, but in September 2017 released a spontaneous 5-song EP entitled Snapshot. The songs, which were written in one week and recorded soon after, had minimalistic arrangements.[13] In February 2019, Zimmerman released Lend Me Your Tears, his second full-length album, and the first to be distributed on vinyl.[14] Although performing a number of band shows around the album’s release, Zimmerman continued to tour as a solo act in Israel and Germany.[15][16]
Contributions, collaborations and side projects
Over the course of his musical career, Zimmerman collaborated with numerous musicians and contributed to their recordings. A partial list includes: Yaniv Horovitz, Shachar Croitoru, Komuna Mapu, Sun Tailor and Bay6.[17][18] Zimmerman also co-produced and participated in several tribute concerts in Tel Aviv to musical artists such as Jeff Buckley, Tom Waits and Neil Young, the latter which is covered regularly by Zimmerman in an ongoing tribute solo concert series.[19][20][21]
Personal life
Amos Zimmerman was born and raised in Givat Haim (Ihud), Israel, and spent 3 years with his family in New Jersey, USA, between the ages 10-13. He has lived in Tel Aviv since 2008.
