Amrish Kumar Adhana (born 2 July 1975[1]) is an Indian former long and middle distance runner who represented India in the 1999 South Asian Games and won a gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase, and currently
he is coaching national record holder Avinash Sable and Manjeet Singh.[2][3]
Early life
Amrish Kumar Adhana was born in Lodhipur, Chhapka district Ghaziabad now Hapur. After completing his 10th from his school, Amrish got selected in the Indian Army Jat regiment center in Bareilly as a normal soldier. After completing his basic army training, Amrish got posted in Poonch District in J&K with the 15 Jat regiment. In May 1992, he got selected in the army team[4] and then in November 1992 got selected in the services team. Amrish got his first gold medal in national cross country in March 1993.
Career as coach
After a successful sports career, in 2003 Amrish got a degree in sports from the national institute of sports Patiala. From 2003 to 2019 he was a coach of the army and chief coach of the army athletics team from 2008 to 2019. And in 2017, he was a coach of the Indian team[5] and still is in the team. Students coached by Amrish are Avinash Sable (first Indian to qualify for the Olympics in 3000m steeplechase after India’s independence under his guidance)[6] and Manjeet Singh (first Indian to win a medal after 36 years to win gold in the 18 Asian Games Jakarta Indonesia).[7]
