Amy Sue Bix is an American historian of science, technology and medicine noted for her research on the history of technology, science, and medicine with studies of women and gender, the history of education, and twentieth-century social, cultural, and intellectual history.[1]
Biography[edit]
Bix was born and raised in the Chicago area.[2]
Career[edit]
Bix earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Princeton University.[3] As a result of her research and publications she was elected to the Sigma Xi national scientific honor society.[4] She then earned a Ph.D. in History of Science from Johns Hopkins University.[5] Her dissertation "Inventing Ourselves Out of Jobs?: America's Debate over Technological Unemployment, 1929-1981" was selected as one of the American Library Association’s Choice Magazine Outstanding Academic Titles.[6]
Bix has been a History professor at Iowa State University since 1993.[7] In 2007 she became the Director for Iowa State's Consortium for the History of Technology and Science.[8] May 2023 she was awarded the title of Distinguished Professor.[9]
