Amy Wurtz
Amy Wurtz is a Chicago-based pianist, composer, music arranger, music copyist, and teacher. She holds degrees in Piano Performance and Creative Writing from the University of Redlands and a Master's degrees in Music Composition and Piano Performance from the University of Minnesota. Her primary teachers include pianists Alexander Braginsky and Louanne Long, as well as composers Judith Lang Zaimont and Alexandra Pierce.[1]
During her studies Amy held positions as a lecturer in Music Theory at the Minneapolis Community Technical College and as a Teaching Assistant for the University of Minnesota.[1] A CD of her first two string quartets was released on April 15, 2012 by the Chicago Q Ensemble.[1] The American Music Project commissioned Wurtz's Piano Quintet in August 2014. The world premiere was performed by the composer and the Chicago Q Ensemble on October 5, 2014.[2]
Wurtz is a member of the Calumet Chamber Musicians, appears regularly with Access Contemporary Music, and serves as a board member for New Music Chicago.[3]
