Anamika Haksar is a theatre director trained under Badal Sircar and the National School of Drama under Shri B. V. Karanth (1979-1982)
The only Indian to train in the most prestigious Theatre Institute in Moscow
Gitis, The State Institute of Theatrical Arts. She was awarded Lenin's Diploma of Excellence for Direction. 1982-1988
She formulated the syllabus for the production process for the National School of Drama in the 1990s.
She has trained some of the most eminent theatre directors today as well as actors in contemporary theatre cinema and television.
She is credited with Bringing a new language of visual metaphorical poetic theatre to India in a contemporary context as well as a relook at Indian realism
She has directed over 25 productions and has been on the Academic Council, at the National School of Drama, during the directorship of Dr. Anuradha Kapur.
She is the only Indian to have studied and Received Stanislavski from the Soviet Union.

1988-1995
Nirakar is the name of her theatre group, which she formed in 1988[1]
- Reminiscences of Krishna with Moscow Ensemble of Plastic Drama - This was part of the USSR festival and travelled to seven cities of India and 17 cities of USSR (1988)
- Viy by Gogol (with Nirakar in 1989)
- Grahon Ki Kahani Grahon Ki Zubaani with Khilona repertory company. An interactive play for children which went to forty schools. A play about planets. (1989)
- Dakghar by Tagore - A unique interpretation of Tagore - Shri Ram Centre Repertory Company (1989)
- Dream of Reason - About the oppression of artists by the state machinery. A Spanish play on The Spanish artists Goyas black period (with Nirakar) (1990)
- The Greatcoat by Gogol with Bhartendu Natya Academy, Lucknow (1991)
- Secret Garden For Children (1992)
- Antar Yatra - Based on Tamil Epic Sillapadikaram. This was an unique and historic stage design. The canopy opened like the lens of an eye. It is the first time that the Tamil Epic was staged in the North. Hindustani and Carnatic music was used and Leela Samson and T. V. Gopalakrishna collaborated in this play (with Nirakar). The Space designed by Archana Shastri (1993)
- Raj Darpan - The first ever play on the Dramatic performance act of 1876 with the National School of Drama students (batch-1994) and its repertory. In collaboration with Rati Bartholomew, Sumantra Banerjee. The play traveled extensively in India. (1994)
- Vazirpur Ki Kahaani – A street play on un-organized workers in steel factories. Over 40 shows (1995)
1997-1998
- Hooriya - On Globalization and the loss of history. The show traveled all over India (with Nirakar) (1997)
- Ek Shyam Yun Hi by Sanjay Chauhan, with Vinod & Kavita Nagpal the well known critic. (1998)
2000-2008
- Riders to The Sea with Lady Shri Ram College (2000)
- Baavla - Based on Dostoevsky's The Idiot (with Nirakar) (2003)
- Gorky's Mother with an all-women’s group, Nireeksha (2005)
- Workshop based on dreams and paintings with Raffiqui (2007)
- Uchakka by Lakshman Gaikwad with NSD. The production traveled all over Maharashtra (2008)
2016
- Water - On a Dalit poet named Namdeo Dhasals poem 'Water' shown in Kochi Muziris Biennale.
FILMS 2012-2013
- Short film called Pagdandi - 2019
- Feature film Ghode Ko Jalebi Khilane Le Ja Riya Hoon. It has won 8 National and International awards including Fipresci International critics jury award. Hailed as a path-breaking film.[2]
Has conducted over 50 workshops all over India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Canada Trained over 1200 actors, directors, and theatre workers.
She is also associated with several theatre institutes in India NSD, BNA LUCKNOW THEATRE PROFESSIONALS, KALINA THEATRE DEPT, PATIALA THEATRE DEPT, GOA KALA ACADEMY, ETC.

PEDAGOGY
One of the few theatre practitioners who has evolved a pedagogical approach to teach direction and acting.
Her productions have reinterpreted the approach to looking at Indian realism.
