Ananth Narayanan

Ananth Narayanan (born 24 December 1976) has been the chief executive officer of Myntra and Jabong.com, fashion e-commerce platforms in India since October 1, 2015. He has been an additional independent director at Marico limited since June 26, 2017. He served as a director in Muckiness's Chennai office.

Early life and education[edit]

Narayanan was born in 1976 in Tamil Nadu, India. His parents are Sankara Narayanan and Chandrika Sankara Narayanan, Ananth started his school life in Chennai at Vidya Mandir (school). He obtained his bachelor's degree in Engineering from University of Madras. He obtained his master's degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of Michigan.

Career[edit]

Narayanan had worked with Mckinsey & company for more than 15 years working in the United States, China and India as a director in the firm before quitting the firm in 2015. He had primarily led the product development practice in Asia and consulted with his clients on strategy, business plans, operations and organisational models. In 2015, Narayanan became a Chief Executive Officer of Myntra, a fashion and lifestyle e-commerce company based in Bengaluru. Narayanan will also takeover as the chief executive officer of Jabong. Flipkart-owned Myntra has bought fashion e-tailer Jabong for around $70 million along with chief executive officer of Myntra. [11] In 2016, Narayanan inspected Myntra's acquisition of jabong, for $70 million, and Narayanan also becomes the Chief Executive Officer of Jabong. [5] In 2017, Narayanan was appointed as Board of Directors of consumer goods company Marico Ltd. [8] Recently, Narayanan has resigned from the Chief Executive Officer of Myntra and Jabong. He has resigned to focus on the next phase of his entrepreneurial journey. Narayanan has stepped down to pursue other opportunities. Narayanan had joined myntra in 2015 as its CEO, after a 15-year stint at McKinsey. He had joined Myntra after the jabong acquisition, he was the CEO of the combined entity. ET reported that, He may also consider moving back to McKinsey to join its US practice. Narayanan is married to Sandhya Subraamanyam, She is Director of Ehrlich Laboratory. Narayanan has three children. His father worked at senior role in Hindustan Motors and Bosch. He his is a wine lover and has a large collection of wines. He has a collection of more than 800 wines at his house in Chicago. [9] Narayanan likes to read, host people over wine at his home and play tennis. He is associated with Kalakshetra Foundation, an arts and cultural academy. He supports fine arts and the girl child education. Narayanan highly recommend ‘Thinking, Fast and Slow’ by Daniel Kahneman. For holidays Narayanan love vacationing in Kodaikanal. He grew up going there every summer. And he also goes to a small village in Austria called obergurgi. He start his day with 15 meditation and 30 minutes of walking. He loves to listen '80s rock and anything by A R Rahman. [4]

Awards and achievements[edit]

Narayanan has been featured as one of "India's Hottest 40 under 40 Business Leaders" in 2014 of Economic Times. [10] He is also a Fellow at the Aspen Global Leadership Network. He had Co-authored a book on Product Excellence: ‘Driving success through true product excellence”. In 2017, Myntra CEO Narayanan unveiled his Mission Apollo to the top. This mission was for the company's profitability. In six months Narayanan's conviction was clear as Myntra posted 5 percent EBITDA, however net profit is still some distance away. [2]
