Anatol Smorodintsev (April 6, 1901 – August 6, 1986) was a Soviet virologist, who is recognized for having developed the first live human influenza virus vaccine, when in 1937 he and his colleagues reported on the administration of the Wilson Smith strain to humans.[1] Although this vaccine would not receive a passing grade by modern standards, the Smorodintsev vaccine is recognized for having demonstrated the role of the virus in the development of influenza.[2]
