Ancient Debris is one of Minecraft's many unique ores found in the nether dimension.[edit]

How to find:[edit]

Ancient Debris is a rare Minecraft ore, only being found in the nether, mostly at a Y Level of 15.[1] To mine this valuable ore, you must use a diamond or netherite pickaxe. Without either tool, the ore will drop nothing when it breaks. It will take you 5.65 seconds to mine the ore with a diamond pickaxe, while only taking 5 seconds to mine with a netherite one. Ancient debris cannot spawn in relatively big veins, and can only spawn in groups of up to 3.

Besides from mining, ancient debris can also be found in bastion remnant chests.

In Java Edition: [1][edit]
Chest Type Amount Chance
Generic Chest 1 13.5%
Treasure Chest 2 12.7%
Hoglin Stable Chest 2 5.7%
In Bedrock Edition: [1][edit]

Treasure Chest 1 5.7%
Hoglin Stable Chest 2 12.7%

How to use:[edit]

To use Ancient Debris, you must first smelt it into netherite scrap. [2] Netherite scraps can be made by smelting ancient debris in a furnace. After smelting, you must combine 4 netherite scraps and 4 gold ingots in a crafting table to make a netherite ingot. [3] After doing so, you can combine a netherite ingot with any diamond piece of armor or tool in a smithing table to make it netherite.

Netherite tools and armor come with many advantages. The netherite armor pieces give more armor points than diamond pieces, and also apply knockback resistance to whoever is wearing it. The tools break the same speed as gold tools (faster than diamond), and do 1 extra attack damage over diamond tools.

Netherite tools and armor also come with an awesome durability boost. To find the durability of Netherite tools and armor, along with other gear, visit this page.
