Ancomah, also known as Antzomakh or Antzimah, is a mythological city from Turkish folklore. It is one of the three proposed locations along the Black Sea hypothesized to have been the site of the Lost City of Atlantis.[1][2]
In folklore[edit]
According to Turkish historian Hasan Umur, Ancomah existed near the city of Trabzon, Turkey on the Black Sea coast.[3] It's about fifty meters away from the sea itself and is situated along the lower slopes of a mountain. The city was said to have been very rich before the arrival of the Bosporus.[4] Because of the Bosporus, the city was lost in value and so it was abandoned.[5] A king buried the city's gold by a river near it's original site, encasing it in wax. After the wax hardened, he was able to create a lake around it using a secret waterway. Today, there is a lake around thirty meters wide many believe to be the site of the treasure.[5][6]
The city was said to have used iron pipes to transport milk from nearby plateaus. Citizens whom lived along the Baltaci River also note that the iron rings used to tie ships could be seen from far away.[5]
Atlantis[edit]
Ancomah is one of three locations along the Black Sea proposed to have been the site of Atlantis, the other two being Bosporous and Sinop.[2] The reason for it's proposition is because of the similarities between its destruction and the destruction of Atlantis as described by Plato.[7]
