Anderson Trucking Service, Inc. (ATS) is an American transportation and logistics company headquartered in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Founded in 1955, it is one of the largest privately held for-hire carriers in the United States.[1] ATS and its affiliates provide transportation services including flatbed, heavy haul, wind-energy project cargo, van freight, and third-party logistics.[2]
History
The company traces its origins to Harold E. Anderson, a World War II veteran who flew 29 missions as a B-24 pilot in the U.S. Army Air Forces.[3] After the war, Anderson worked in fleet management for Cold Spring Granite before purchasing Granite City Transfer in 1955 and renaming it Anderson Trucking Service.[4]
Initially hauling granite and stone, ATS diversified into specialized freight during the 1960s and 1970s. By its 70th anniversary in 2025, the company had become a multi-division carrier with operations across North America.[5]

As of 2025, ATS is ranked the 31st-largest for-hire carrier in the U.S. by Transport Topics and operates through multiple divisions.[6] Subsidiaries include:
- ATS Specialized – heavy haul and oversize freight
- ATS Inc. – dry van services
- ATS Logistics Services – a freight brokerage and third-party logistics provider, ranked 79th on the 2025 Transport Topics Top 100 Logistics Companies list[7] and 35th on the 2025 TransportTopics Top Freight Brokerage Firms list.[8]
- Warren Transport – flatbed and specialized hauling
- Prestera Trucking
- Former affiliate Midwest Specialized Transportation, absorbed by ATS in 2022[9]

Wind energy and project cargo
Since the early 2000s, ATS has been a transporter of wind-turbine components and related project cargo.[11] Industry analysts have cited the company as a leading carrier in renewable energy logistics.[12]
Leadership
The Anderson family has remained involved in management since the company’s founding. The company is now in its third generation of family ownership under its founder's son, CEO Rollie Anderson, and grandson, company president Brent Anderson. [13]
Community and philanthropy
Throughout its history, ATS has participated in charitable giving and philanthropy efforts. In 1998, ATS was the founding benefactor of the Anderson Center for Management and Leadership Development in conjunction with St. Cloud State University.
In 2011, the company made a $1 million donation to St. Cloud Hospital for the establishment of a new intensive care unit.[14]
After Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas in 2017, ATS dedicated more than 200 trucks from its fleet to deliver relief supplies to affected areas.[15]
The Anderson Assistance Foundation, established by the company, provides support for ATS employees and their families during hardships. By 2023 it had distributed more than $1 million in aid.[16]
