Andoni Island
Andoni Island is regarded as the most endemic island in Nigeria. Located at the eastern fringe of the oil-rich Niger Delta in Rivers State, it is a barrier island that was geographically shaped by nature in the likeness of a shark. The Island, measuring about 124 km2, is known for housing the endangered African forest elephants (*Loxodonta africana cyclotis*), pygmy hippopotamus, and many other mammals. The Island is also a nesting ground for various species of sea turtles.
