András Tombor (Veszprém, 1973. augusztus –) Internationally active Hungarian businessman,[1][2][3] founder of Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC)[4][5] and renown polo player of his Bardon Polo Team.[6][7]
Education and early life[edit]
Tombor was born in Hungary in 1973. His family was strongly anti-communist and lost all its wealth after the WWII.[8]
He attended a Benedictine boarding school in Győr, Hungary.[9]
He studied History (MA) and Classical Philology both in Budapest, Hungary and in Vienna, Austria.[10] He also holds an MA degree of International Economics and International Relations from Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Washington, D.C., USA.[11]
He participated in various internship programmes with Unesco World Heritage Program[12], the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London, PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Washington, D.C. after graduation from SAIS he joint Citibank as corporate finance analyst.[13]
He translated Roger Scruton's How to be a Conservative into Hungarian.[14]
Business career[edit]
Tombor joint then Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's cabinet as senior security policy advisor in 2000-2002.[15]
After leaving his position in the government he continued pursuing his business career. He managed as either CEO or board member of various companies in Media[16], FMCG[17], Telecom[18] and energy[19] sectors. Currently he is managing his private investment portfolio.[20] He is active in the utility sector through a joint venture with Veolia.[21][22] Also,he has been known for his contribution to the creation of Magyar Vagon, a Hungary based train manifacturing company.[23]
Furthermore, Tombor has interests in the defence industry[24] as well as in media.[25] He holds a major stake in two wine companies, one of them is the renown sparkling wine producer, Carassia from Transylvania, Romania. [26]
Mathias Corvinus Collegium[edit]
At the age of 23, Tombor founded Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC)[27], one of the largest non-profit talent center in Europe. Through its extracurricular programmes, MCC supports merit-based social mobility of outstanding students in Hungary and its neighbouring countries.[28] MCC has over 7,500 student as of today, starting from the age of 10 until finishing university.[29]

Tombor is a devoted polo player, founder and member of Bardon Polo Team, winner of many UK[30] and Argentina based trophies.[31]
