Andrea Hickey (born October 5, 1988) is an American actress. After performing in theater during her childhood, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Belmont University in 2010. Hickey is also a licensed counselor, having earned a master's degree in therapeutic work from Liberty University. Following a career in counseling, she resumed her pursuits of acting and modeling in 2018, and was quickly signed by a talent agency. Initially working in independent short films, she later appeared in the CBS drama The Young and the Restless, won a Best Actress award for the independent feature The Tiny House Movie, and received a lead role in a Lifetime production.

Early life and education[edit]

Andrea Hickey grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. She developed an interest in performing during her childhood, often reenacting scenes from the television shows Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman and I Love Lucy with her sister.[2] While studying theater in high school, she was cast in a number of college plays, and subsequently received an acting scholarship. She graduated from Nashville's Belmont University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2010. In reference to her training, Hickey later noted, "Belmont believed in me. That belief shaped my life."[3]

Hickey also earned a master's degree in counseling at Liberty University.[1][2]

Career[edit]

Hickey moved to Tucson, Arizona with her husband in 2012, choosing to balance a career in counseling with occasional roles in local plays.[3] She began to pursue screen acting in 2018, and was signed by an Arizona-based talent agency. Initially performing in independent short films and commercials, she eventually won a guest part on the Los Angeles television serial The Young and the Restless. She also worked as a model, largely appearing on international retail products.[1][4]

Her first feature-length film was the 2019 independent production The Tiny House Movie, in which she played the romantic interest of a man in comedic crisis. The performance earned her the Best Actress award from the Sunny Side Up Film Festival, an annual ceremony traditionally presented in Oklahoma.[1][5] Having signed with a second agency in Los Angeles, she booked subsequent parts soon afterward.[4]

Two years following her screen debut, Hickey began targeting work with the prominent Lifetime television company.[1] She eventually won the lead role in the 2021 Lifetime feature Dying To Marry Him.[4] She was also cast as a guest star on the INSP series Wild West Chronicles, in which she plays a headstrong wife who motivates her husband to pursue his dream.[1][6]

Dying To Marry Him was covered in periodicals from Hickey's alma mater, Belmont, and her residential town of Tucson.[1][7] In the film, she portrays a deceitful wedding planner who intends to win her ex-boyfriend back before he marries another woman. While discussing Hickey's work, producer Chris Lancey stated, "I had the pleasure of casting Andrea as the villain in my movie, and she has proven to be one of the most valuable people involved. She works to truly embody her characters to give an authentic, honest performance. Playing the villain is not an easy task, but Andrea did it effortlessly."[7]

She also became a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and was certified by the Screen Actors Guild. While commenting on her work in screen roles, Hickey stated, "Things have happened fast. I've been really blessed and I am really grateful for that."[1] She subsequently won parts in the projects Dark Prince and The Seed of Consequences.[4]

Personal life[edit]

Hickey married her husband in 2013.[1] During her teenage years, she suffered from an eating disorder which derailed her pursuit of acting and required extensive treatment. She subsequently used her counseling degree to help people with similar problems.[1] In addition to acting, Hickey enjoys singing, and has a mezzo-soprano vocal range.[4] She grew up admiring Lucille Ball and Jane Seymour.[2]
