Andrea Jori is a sculptor and painter born in Mantua in 1953. His early artistic career started in the late sixties, with artworks in search of a new artistic language able to place man at the center of his universe with his fragilities and ambitions.

Early life

He was born in Mantua, Italy, a city known for its strong cultural leanings, and in 1977 he graduated from the DAMS of the University of Bologna. He developed his unique ways of drawing, engraving, and painting, and at the age of 18, he was invited to the 1971 Student Biennial at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, followed by a personal exhibition in 1974 in one of the most prestigious art galleries in Mantua at the time.[1]

Career

In the 1970s he experimented with different materials that led to the creation of ephemeral works that are almost all lost nowadays. He opened his own laboratory in Mantua in 1981.

Since the eighties, he developed artworks in plaster cast, engraved and partially painted with oil or acrylic colors, often with applied organic or mechanical relief structures, linoleographs, studies for street furniture, theatrical sets, ink sketches, colorful cartoons painted with marker pens.[2]

In the nineties, Andrea Jori deepened the technique of high-temperature fusion of glazes, different terracotta, oxides on colored glass plates and other metal supports with historical-cultural quotations, demonstrating a balanced sense of classical compositional refinement, interpreted and enhanced by a harsh, essential and archaic modeling style.[3]

In 2005 the city of Mantua conferred Andrea Jori the Virgilio D'Oro Award for his artistic merits.[4]

In recent years, the artist specialized in a micro and macro fusion of bronze, working assiduously at the main Veneto foundries, creating works that are often commissioned by public or religious institutions.[5] Also, there are numerous achievements in the field of jewelry with micro-sculptures in silver, platinum, and gold.

Many of his works belong to art collections in Italy and abroad.[6][7][8]
