Andrea Scholze (b.1988) is a Norwegian artist educated at the Art Academy in Oslo with a master's degree in medium and material-based art.(BFA, 2011, MFA, 2016)

Scholze works primarily with sculptural and figurative works. Her works often has an organic aesthetic. Scholze wants to capture form and movement. Her sculptures have a rough and uneven expression. The beings she creates are at the intersection between animals humans and usually have soulless eyes, a signature that has followed her for several years.

The sculptures are made mainly of ceramics and in some cases other materials such as porcelain or joint foam. Scholze also increasingly explores other materials and expressions, where elements of biology and human moods are juxtaposed against the world of animals.[1] The sculptures are roughly modeled ceramics with a gloomy appearance, often appearing as monkey-like figures. This expression is recognizable in Scholze's artistry.

Andrea Scholze's figures can be perceived as artificial and primal. In her practice, Andrea Scholze orients herself around a set of changing references, but her interest in Science Fiction is central. Reminders of evolution are present, but also a stated attitude on behalf of how we modern people destroy nature and species. The separation from nature can seem absolute, but at the same time we seek out forests and mountains as our primary needs. The rough expression in the modeling and the use of glaze make each and every sculpture unique. In addition to the fact that her themes can strike a chord with many of us with titles such as "I don't belong", "Waiting for spring". Her sculptures strike a nerve in us, where we can all recognise ourselves in feelings like loneliness or alienation in a world that can be perceived as dystopian and hopeless.

Andrea Scholze's artistry focuses on themes that are existential, exploratory and novel. Andrea Scholze captures nature and animals' vulnerability in the encounter with the modern man, who increasingly distances himself from nature. The individual sculptures produce existential thoughts and reflections and tell us stories. The creatures make the viewer yearn for nature and reflect on themselves. In an interview for the norwegian newspaper Kapital Scholze shares that during her studies she was much inspired by the visual artist Per Inge Bjørlo, particularly known for his sculptures, and the German multi-artist Jonathan Meese, known for his large abstract paintings and his controverisal political statements issued through his artistry.[2]

Scholze's monkeys are walking again. A flock of "Monkeys" she made during her studies were selected for the annual exhibition at the norwegian national museum in 2015. It was there that the state purchasing agency KORO (art in public spaces) discovered Scholze's artistry. KORO bought seven large monkey sculptures on behalf of what was then called Buskerud County Municipality and placed them at Hønefoss High School. Scholze has since the exhibited nationally and internationally, including at Trønderlag Center for Contemporary Art in Trondheim in 2021, Akershus Art Center in Lillestrøm in 2019.Selected group exhibitions include Allouche Benias in Athens, New Nordic Porcelain Forum, workshops and exhibitions (2019-2022) as well as QB Gallery in Oslo (2021, 2020, 2022). She has previously exhibited at the Patric Parrish Gallery in New York (2018), TRESOR in  Basel (2017), the Collective Design Fair in New York (2016) and the Talente showcase in Munich (2015). In addition to this, she exhibited at the Autumn Exhibition and the Annual Exhibition in 2013, 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Scholze's artwork has been purchased by both private and public collections, including KODE in Bergen, Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum in Trondheim for the museum's permanent collection, and KORO, Art in the public space, Norway.[3]
