Biography[edit]

Andrea Venzon was born in Milan[1] from a family of Venetian origin. His father used to work in a bank, and his mother was an entrepreneur. Andrea studied at Bocconi University and London Business School. He then worked for two years as a consultant with McKinsey[5] before starting a Master in Public Administration at Columbia University.[6]

Career[edit]

In March 2017, supported by the French Colombe Cahen-Salvador and the German Damian Boeselager, Andrea Venzon launched Volt Europa - a new pan-European political movement.[7][8] Venzon said that the movement is "More than an idea, it was a necessity". He also added, "The British had just shocked the entire continent[9] by voting to leave the European Union, against all expectations. At that moment I realized that for my generation, it was time to stop watching and take an active part in defending the European project".[10] Under Andrea's leadership, Volt Europa mobilized 60,000 people[11] and received almost half a million votes[12] in the European Elections of May 2019, which resulted in its first sit in the European Parliament.[13]

In March 2019, Forbes included him as one of the 100 Italian leaders of the future.[14]

In October 2019, Venzon announced NOW![15], a global movement aimed at bringing citizens from all over the world to work together to tackle the great challenges of our time, identified by the movement in issues such as nationalism, climate change, and the lack of gender equality.[16] NOW! has been officially launched on January 1, 2020.[17] Its first campaign has been backed by Joshua Wong.[18]
