From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Andreas Kronthaler is the Creative Director, Design Partner and husband of Vivienne Westwood.[1]

Life and career[edit]

Early years[edit]

Born in Tyrol, Austria, on 26th January 1966.

In 1980 Kronthaler went to art school in Graz, Austria, where he spent five years training to be a fine jeweller.

During this time, he began to experiment with fashion, making clothes at home to be sold to friends and in local stores.

Once completing his diploma he went on to study Industrial Design at the Vienna School of Applied Art- later changing to the fashion design course.

Vivienne Westwood[edit]

In 1988 Andreas Kronthaler met Vivienne Westwood whilst she was teaching the Fashion Design course at the Vienna School of Applied Art. [2]

In 1989, Andreas moved to London to work for Vivienne Westwood.

The first collection he worked on with Vivienne Westwood was the Spring-Summer 1991 collection: ‘Cut and Slash’.

In this collection Kronthaler developed his own Renaissance inspired gowns - later given the name of the Sun Wheel dress.

Married in 1993, Vivienne Westwood and Andreas Kronthaler continued to develop collections together. [3]

Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood[edit]

While Kronthaler previously remained a silent design partner and creative director of the brand, in 2016 Vivienne Westwood acknowledged his commitment and influence on the Vivienne Westwood Gold Label collection over the past 25 years by renaming the line to: Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood. [4]

The collection continues to show in Paris season on season, whilst the brands mainline collection titled Vivienne Westwood shows in London. [5]
