Andrej Sergeevich Rusakov, also known as “Андрей Сергеевич Русаков,” is a Lithuania-born serial entrepreneur, investor, hedge fund manager, and philanthropist. Most recently, Mr. Rusakov is the co-founding partner and seed investor of Data Capital Management (DCM).[1][2]
Mr. Rusakov is a sought-after speaker and a thought leader in the fields of machine learning and artificial intelligence with frequent keynote addresses at MIT, Harvard, Battle of the Quants, RavenPack and various technology conferences.[3][4][5][6][7]
Previously, Mr. Rusakov founded Open Capital, where he served as Chief Executive Officer.[8]
Mr. Rusakov built his wealth through private equity and venture capital investments, participating in hedge fund launches, and by founding various technology and investment companies in the U.S., U.K., and Russia.[9]
Early Life
Mr. Rusakov was born in Lithuania on March 12, 1982, and grew up in the town of Visaginas.
Education
Mr. Rusakov holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and an MSc, (Summa Cum Laude) in Mathematics from the Department of Mechanics & Mathematics of Moscow State University where he majored in Statistics and Theory of Probabilities. Graduating in the top 1% of his class, Mr. Rusakov's exemplary performance in mathematics was recognized through the highest distinctions possible – a Red Diploma and a Gold Medal.[10][11]
Earlier in his school career, Mr. Rusakov graduated with a perfect record from Kolmogorov's Special Educational and Scientific Centre of Moscow State University.
Mr. Rusakov is fluent in Russian, English, Lithuanian, and Spanish.
Investment Career
Mr. Rusakov began his career in the London office of Morgan Stanley where he was focused on Mergers & Acquisitions in the global Media & Telecommunications sector.
Later, Mr. Rusakov joined Apax Partners where he was responsible for leveraged buy-out investments in the Technology sector, reaching over $1 billion globally.
Mr. Rusakov was also responsible for developing and executing Russian and Eastern European opportunities with a focus on Technology and Telecommunications, Media, Healthcare, and Retail & Consumer companies.
After departing Apax Partners at the age of 27, Mr. Rusakov founded Open Capital, a worldwide holding and investment company boasting portfolio companies and assets throughout the United States of America, Europe, and Russia.[12][13]
Mr. Rusakov's private equity fund provided growth capital for companies throughout Russia and Eastern Europe. Open Capital offered financial support for many international companies and grew Russian markets. Mr. Rusakov expanded his company through new investment opportunities, deal executions, and the development of portfolio companies.
Later in his career, Mr. Rusakov and his Harvard Business School colleagues co-founded Data Capital Management in 2014. Based in New York, Data Capital Management focuses on applications of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence technologies to capital markets.[14][15][16][17][18][19]
Personal Life
In 2015, Mr. Rusakov was named one of Russia's most eligible bachelors by Tatler magazine.[16][21]
He got engaged to the gorgeous Russian model based in NYC, Katrina Kruglova in September 2017[20]. The pair eventually decided to tie the knot and got married in a grand wedding ceremony on September 22, 2018 in Marrakesh, Morocco.[21]
Mr. Rusakov enjoys basketball, kite surfing, chess, tennis, and various winter sports.
Philanthropy
Mr. Rusakov strongly believes in the concept of equality of opportunity and is an avid supporter of educational equality. He has established foundations at Harvard Business School and supports several charities through the Rusakov Educational Foundation.
