Andrew Hallam (born May 4, 1970) is a personal finance author and speaker.  He wrote Millionaire Teacher (Wiley 2011, 2017), The Global Expatriate’s Guide To Investing (Wiley 2014) and Millionaire Expat (Wiley 2018).

Millionaire Teacher describes how Hallam built a million dollar portfolio on a teacher’s salary by investing in a portfolio of low-cost index funds and living below his means.[1] [2] [3]

Hallam published a second edition of Millionaire Teacher in 2017[4]

He began writing for MoneySense magazine in 2002[5], and Canada’s national newspaper, The Globe and Mail, in 2012. [6] He also wrote a column for Canadian Business magazine (2012-2014)[7], and he writes a regular weekly column for AssetBuilder, a U.S. based investment firm.[8] In 2018, he began to write for the Luxembourg-based brokerage, Internaxx.[9]

Personal life

Hallam was born in Nottingham, England.  In December 1972, his family moved to Canada, where he was raised.  He grew up in Kamloops, British Columbia, and he earned his Bachelor of Education at the University of Victoria in 1996.

He taught middle school and high school English on Vancouver Island, moving to Singapore in 2003.  Hallam then taught high school English to international students at Singapore American School (2003-2014) where he also taught Personal Finance.[10] [11]
