Andrew J. Meredith
Andrew J. Meredith is an American labor leader, military veteran, and renewable energy executive. He served as president of the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California (SBCTC), representing nearly 500,000 skilled workers across multiple trades,[1] and currently leads labor and market strategy for RWE Offshore Wind’s California projects.[2] Meredith has been featured in state, national, and industry publications for his work bridging organized labor and clean energy development.[3]
Early life and public service
Meredith grew up in Galt, California.[4] He served in the U.S. Army as a Black Hawk helicopter crew chief, flying missions during the Iraq War. For his service, he was awarded the Air Medal.[5] After completing his military duty, he became a union electrician and entered local government. He served on the Galt City Council from 2008 to 2010, including a term as mayor,[6] and was later appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to the board of directors of the 30th District Agricultural Association.[7]
Labor leadership
Meredith held leadership roles within the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers before being elected president of the SBCTC in 2021.[1] He was the youngest person to hold the position in the organization's history. During his tenure, he represented over 450,000 union members and played a significant role in state infrastructure and clean energy policy. He was named one of the 100 most influential figures in California politics by *Capitol Weekly* in 2022.[8]
Meredith participated in workforce events such as the Electrical Training Institute tour hosted by IBEW Local 11,[9] and regularly engaged in policy discussions about apprenticeship, project labor agreements, and public infrastructure. He appeared in news coverage about permitting and labor impacts of California’s offshore wind buildout.[10]
Renewable energy and offshore wind
In 2023, Meredith joined RWE Offshore Wind, a global clean energy developer, as Director of Labor Relations and California Market Lead. He oversees workforce engagement and development strategy for the company’s West Coast offshore wind initiatives.[2] Under his leadership, RWE signed a project labor agreement on California’s first floating offshore wind project.[11] Meredith has been cited in national and industry publications as a key labor voice shaping California’s clean energy workforce transition.[12] He was a featured speaker at the 2024 Offshore WINDPOWER Conference.[13]
