Andrew Lorenzo
Andrew Louis Lorenzo (born August 30, 1984) is an American actor and singer. Lorenzo is best known for his roles on stage, such as Daniel Kaffee in A Few Good Men and The Phantom in The Phantom Of The Opera-- an Australian professional/amateur premier...[1] His work also includes numerous lead roles in many short films as well as working on television series' such as The Warriors and Offspring[2]. Lorenzo grew up in New Jersey, and has spent the last few years of his life performing in Australia where he originally went to teach Ballroom and Latin Dance.
Career
Early Career
Andrew got his start in the performance industry working in the props department for his high school plays (not including the numerous productions he was part of before high school). Throughout high school, Andrew trained with his vocal teacher, Laura Menard, where he developed his vocal technique, launching him into the world of musical theatre.
As an actor, Andrew has worked in various professional and non-professional Musical Theatre and Non-Musical Theatre productions across America and Australia including his roles as the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera, Daniel Kaffee in A Few Good Men, Edward Lyons in Blood Brothers, and Clifford Wells in The Moonlight Room.
His roles also include numerous leading characters in various short films throughout Melbourne, Australia after training with Brave Studios, Hollywood Immersive, and the Prestigious Beverly Hills Playhouse.
Theatre
Since making his stage debut in Aladdin(non-Disney), Andrew's career has catapulted forward. His first professional theatrical production was that of Blood Brothers, playing one of the brothers-- Edward Lyons. Running for just 12 performances in Haddon, New Jersey's Arts District, this was one of Andrew's most intense roles. Breaking him out of many comfort zones, he was now gaining the tools to get to know himself as an actor.
After Blood Brothers, Andrew moved on to various professional and non-professional productions, where he eventually found what would be the next 8 years of his life-- Ballroom and Latin Dancing.
Ballroom and Latin Dancing
As early as 2005, Andrew started Ballroom and Latin Dancing with Arthur Murray Dance Studio [3]. In his years with Arthur Murray, he saw himself growing in a much different way than theatre, which led him to his decision to start teaching and competing professionally. In his career, Andrew enjoyed such awards as the Top 10 Teacher in sales in various weeks for Arthur Murray, Most Industrious Teacher- August Showcase 2010, 1st place American Rhythm Rising Star Championship, as well as numerous other awards for his competitions both professionally, and with his students [4].
In 2013, Andrew opened up his own studio in Tullamarine, Australia, where he peaked with his Ballroom and Latin career and was able to pass his knowledge on to many other students and teachers alike[5]
Australian Stage, Television, and Film
After numerous years teaching and competing with Ballroom and Latin Dancing, Andrew made his way back to the stage with the pro-am premier of The Phantom Of The Opera playing the titular role of the Phantom with Geelong Lyric Theatre Society[6]. His first stage performance in 6 years, this proved to be a success and he found that this is where his heart truly lay. From here, Andrew played on the Australian Stage as Oliver Warbucks, Pontius Pilate, and his first Australian professional work as PJ in the premier event The Essence Of Passion at the professional Gasworks Arts Park.
Soon after, Andrew found himself as the lead, Daniel Kaffee in A Few Good Men, which opened to a rave review and multiple standing ovations... "It’s not unusual for a Woodbin opening-night audience to sit enthralled by the play they’re watching. They are, after all, Geelong Rep patrons, and by definition our region’s premier theatre buffs. But it is unusual for Rep’s opening audience to break into spontaneous applause during the action - and I can’t remember the last time a Woodbin opening night drew a standing ovation at the finish. That both these happened with A Few Good Men gives a measure of the quality of this production and the professionalism of its staging." [7]. Greg Shawcross directed the Geelong Rep troupe through the stage version of Aaron Sorkin’s A Few Good Men at Geelong West’s Woodbin Theatre [8].
This would be a defining moment in his career where he would ultimately decide to take a step back with musical theatre and pursue film and television. Since making this decision, Andrew has undertaken lead roles in numerous short films and feature films-- The Latest being Once Were Idiots written and directed by Henry Ching.
He has also spent time on set for some of Australia's most popular shows and now continues with his current agent to push his limits as a performer and as a person.
