From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Andrey Vasilevich Papkov ([[Serbian Cyrillic: Андреј Васиљевич Папков; 1890-1975) was a Belgrade architect of Russian origin.[1]

Biography

Andrey Vasilievich Papkov was a Russian emigrant who arrived in the capital of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes shortly after the October Revolution, like many of his compatriots. Papkov was one of many Russian architects who arrived in Belgrade and contributed to the overall Yugoslav architecture, such as Vasily Baumgarten, Nikolay Krasnov, Vasilije Androsov, Vasily Vladimirovich Stashevsky[2], Grigorije Samojlov, Aleksandar Medvedev, Leonid Makšejev, Pavle Krat,[3] Andrej Ševcov, Viktor Zelinski, Vsevolod Tatarinov, Viktor Zalevski, Irina Nepokojčickaja, Fedor Wenzler, who worked on the reconstruction of Skopje after the 1963 earthquake, and others. Papkov also pursued further studies in architecture in Belgrade.

The interwar period in Belgrade became a place where several different stylistic directions were in use; however, through its structured background, academism maintained its continuous course until the Second World War. Papkov began to design on his own only a few years after his graduation from the School of Architecture and after acquiring experience in the atelier of Milan Zloković[4][5] and Dragiša Brašovan. His greatest contribution to the architecture of Belgrade was a large number of designs in a specific style, a modernist interpretation of academism – the best assimilation of his expertise and skills and the Belgrade interwar architectural climate. In his realized designs, this Russian accomplished his goals, restoring his prewar reputation. Papkov is beginning to gain attention, just like a number of other architects whose opus deserves further research. Art historians, architects and other professionals are now engaged in a true valorization of Papkov's Serbian legacy.
