Andrii Hryhorovych Sirko (Ukrainian: Андрій Григорович Сірко; born 19 February 1975) is a Ukrainian neurosurgeon.[1][2][3][4][5] An Honoured Doctor of Ukraine, he is also professor of the Nervous Diseases and Neurosurgery Department at Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy, and head of the Cerebral Neurosurgery Department at Mechnikov Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Clinical Hospital,[6] He is President of the Ukrainian Neurosurgical Association.[7]

Biography

Andrii Sirko was born on 19 February 1975 in Verkhnodniprovsk, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, where he graduated from the secondary school. In 1998, he graduated from Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy. Between 1998 and 2000, he worked as a junior physician at the academy's Nervous Diseases and Neurosurgery Department within the postgraduate educational faculty.

Since 2000 Sirko has been a neurosurgeon, working at Neurosurgery Department No. 2 of Mechnikov Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Clinical Hospital. Beginning in 2001, he also worked as a part-time assistant physician at the Nervous Diseases and Neurosurgery Department of Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy. After defending his thesis, "Differentiated Management of Metastatic Brain Tumours", he obtained a degree in medicine in 2005.

Since 2005, he has been head of the Cerebral Neurotraumatology Department; since 2009, he is also head of Neurosurgery Department No. 2.

In 2012, at a meeting of the Specialized Scientific Council at the State Institution, Romodanov Neurosurgery Institute, National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, he defended his doctoral thesis, "Intracranial Hypertension in Heavy Traumatic Brain Injury (Diagnosis, Prediction, and Surgical Correction)".

From 2013 to present, Sirko has been an associate professor at the Nervous Diseases and Neurosurgery Department at the Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy. In 2014, he acquired the academic title of associate professor at the Nervous Diseases and Neurosurgery Department.

Scientific activity

Key research areas: neurotrauma, neurooncology, combat gunshot traumatic brain injuries and wounds, restorative and reconstructive neurosurgery. Authored 298 scientific works,[8] including 19 patents of Ukraine, 103 articles, 176 abstracts from the materials of meetings, congresses, and scientific and practical conferences. In addition, co-authored 14 educational materials, manuals, and guidelines. Co-executor of a sectoral scientific and technical program: Medical Aid in Traumatic Brain Injury for 2007–2012.   • Since 2019, a Member of the Editorial Board, Ukrainian Neurosurgical Journal. By the Presidential Decree No. 367/2015 dd June 27, 2015[4] was awarded a title of Honored Doctor of Ukraine.
  • Since 2014, provides neurosurgical aid to the participants of Joint Forces Operation (Ukraine), has been involved in the organization of medical aid to brain wounded patients.
  • In 2015, was awarded the Badge of Dignity and Honor No. 1359 by the Central Operational Territorial Command of the National Guard of Ukraine (Order 7-15 dd 3 February 2015).
  • In 2017, was awarded the Badge of Honor by the Order of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine dd 25 February 2017 No. 125.
  • Was awarded the commendation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine For Merit to the Ukrainian people (Order No. 36-к dd 31 January 2019).
