Andromache of Scythia, commonly referred to as Andy, is a fictional character in The Old Guardcomic book series created by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández, published by Image Comics.[1]
She is the central protagonist of the series and its 2020 Netflix film adaptation, where she is portrayed by Charlize Theron. Andy is a millennia-old warrior who leads a covert team of immortal mercenaries working for the betterment of humanity.[2]

Andromache is a immortal warrior, believed to have been born around 4,700 BCE in the Western Steppe, a historical region spanning from the Altai Mountains to the area north of the Black Sea.
According to her account, Andromache was named heir by her mother, who gifted her a ceremonial axe symbolizing leadership. As she grew stronger and more capable, her mother allegedly became envious of her youth and abilities, ultimately orchestrating a plan to have her killed in battle. Though her mother did not strike the fatal blow herself, she was responsible for issuing the command. This incident led to Andromache's first death, after which she revived and discovered she could not die. Upon learning that her mother had perished in battle, Andromache sought revenge. In the aftermath, she assumed leadership of her tribe.
Over time, as her people became aware of her inability to die, Andromache came to be viewed with reverence and was eventually worshipped. However, the emotional burden of immortality led her to relinquish her leadership role in pursuit of companionship and purpose beyond power and reverence.
During this period of self-imposed exile, Andromache met Yitzhak, another immortal, marking one of the few instances in which she encountered someone who shared her condition. Records suggest that around the 1750s BCE, she was last known to have owned enslaved people. It remains uncertain how long this continued after the implementation of Hammurabi's Code, which included laws pertaining to slavery.
Andromache later developed a long-standing bond with Noriko, a fellow immortal. Their relationship while not explicitly romantic, lasted nearly 2,000 years until Noriko was lost at sea during a violent storm.[3]
In the late 18th to early 19th century, Andromache is believed to have renounced violence during her relationship with a man named Achilles. After their separation, she is presumed to have resumed her involvement with the covert group of immortals known as the Old Guard.
