Andrew Inch[1][2] (born 5 September 1988),[3] better known by his ring name Andy Roberts is a Scottish professional wrestler.[3][4] He is most well known for his work in Insane Championship Wrestling[5][6][7] where he is a former ICW Zero-G Champion.[8][9][10]

He has also appeared for WWE[11] where he competed on the NXT UK brand under the name Andy Wild in 2021.[12][13] Roberts is the current European Heavyweight Champion in his first reign.[14][1]

Roberts is also the owner and head coach of the Fife Pro Wrestling Asylum school.[15][16]

Professional wrestling career

Independent circuit (2006–present)

Wild says he watched wrestling when young, to take his mind off an abusive childhood - his father was an alcoholic and died in 2005.[17] When he took up wresting in his teens, he trained at NWA-UK Hammerlock,[18] before finishing his training in Scotland.[19]

His early career was spent wrestling with Premier British Wrestling.[20][21] Wild fought in the Scottish wrestling scene with Pro Wrestling Elite, Discovery Wrestling, Scottish Wrestling Alliance, WrestleZone and British Championship Wrestling.[22][23][24][25][26][27] He also began wrestling across the wider United Kingdom as well as Europe, Dubai and the United States for companies like 1 Pro Wrestling, Fight Factory Pro Wrestling, All Star Wrestling, Preston City Wrestling, Westside Xtreme Wrestling and Combat Zone Wrestling.[19][28][29][30][31][32][33]

On 9 December 2011, Wild defeated BT Gunn, Lionheart and Noam Dar in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs match to become the BCW Openweight Champion.[34] He eventually lost the title to Dar in Ladder match in 2013.[35]

In a Pro Wrestling Elite tournament, Wild defeated Magnus,[36] Kid Fite and Noam Dar to become the inaugural PWE World Heavyweight Champion on 16 September 2012.[37][38] Holding the title for 363 days, he defended against Robbie E, El Ligero, and Kris Travis before losing it to Elite Rumble winner Dave Mastiff.[39][40]

On 30 August 2014, he unsuccessfully challenged Drew Galloway for the EVOLVE Championship in the annual WrestleZone Battle of the Nations.[41][42][43] A regular for WrestleZone,[44] Wild worked with Rikishi and Sha Samuels and won the Battle of the Nations in 2016 and 2017.[45][46][47] Wild won both the WrestleZone Undisputed and Tri-Counties Championships in 2016 and 2018.[48][49]

In Edinburgh’s Discovery Wrestling, Wild wrestled The Young Bucks, the then reigning Impact Wrestling World Tag Team Champion Eric Young, Eddie Dennis and Zack Gibson.[50][51][52][53] In 2018, he earned a Y Division Championship match[54] when he pinned Bram to win the Disco Derby.[55] He also won the Hotter than Hell tournament[56][57][58][8] and was given the award for Wrestler of the Year.[22] Between 2019 and 2022, Wild was unsuccessful in a series of challenges for the Y Division Championship held by Joe Coffey and later Joe Hendry.[59][60][61][62]

Insane Championship Wrestling (2010–present)

Andy Wild debuted for Insane Championship Wrestling in 2010. He won a Best of Five series with Liam Thomson,[17] the last of the series taking place 23 October 2011 at ICW: Fear and Loathing 4 in a Three Way Elimination match with Zack Sabre Jr.[63][64] After several unsuccessful attempts in matches with Mark Coffey, Joe Coffey and champion Noam Dar,[65] Wild successfully defeated Dar for the ICW Zero-G Championship on 1 July 2017 at ICW: Insane in the Membrane.[66] Holding the title for 231 days, Wild made successful defences against Christopher, Jimmy Havoc and Scott Maverick.[7][67] Wolfgang defeated Wild for the title at ICW: Tramspotting on 17 February 2013.[68][69]

Due to commitments to his family life and career,[17] Wild made fewer appearances for ICW[70] but continued to trade wins and losses with Grado, Kenny Williams and Nathan Cruz among others. Wild defeated new WWE signee[71] Noam Dar in his ICW farewell match on 11 September 2016.[72][73][49]

On 20 November 2016, Wild competed in a Seven Man Elimination Stairway to Heaven Ladder match for the ICW Zero-G Championship on the ICW: Fear and Loathing IX PPV at The SSE Hydro with 6,193 fans in attendance.[74][75] At the ICW: BarraMania 4 PPV in the Barrowland Ballroom, Wild eliminated Jordan Devlin[76][77] in a gauntlet match for the vacant ICW Zero G-Championship. After the match, ICW owner Mark Dallas announced Wild's full-time return to ICW.[78][65]

During Wild's full-time return, ICW programming would be aired be in 38 countries through Fight Network as well as being broadcast and streamed through Nuvolari,[79] FITE and ICW on Demand,[80][81][82] before being added to the WWE Network and Peacock when ICW signed a deal with WWE.[83][84] In this period, Wild challenged Jackie Polo for the ICW World Heavyweight Championship,[85][86] and later faced ICW World Heavyweight Champion Stevie Boy to earn his way up the card.[87][88][7]

At the November ICW: Fear and Loathing XII PPV, Wild defeated the then reigning NXT UK Tag Team Champion Mark Coffey[89] in a Two-out-of-three falls match[90][91] before announcing himself for the Square Go!.[10] Wild lost to the returning[92] (and World Wrestling Entertainment contracted[93] NXT UK and 205Live star) Noam Dar in an ICW World Heavyweight Championship number one contendership match. He also faced Leyton Buzzard (in an 60 Minute Iron Man match), Mikey Whiplash, Jody Fleisch and Mark Haskins[94][95][96] before feuding with Big Damo in a series of matches.[97][98][99] Wild defeated Damo in a steel cage match at ICW: Barred II on 24 April 2022 to end the feud.[100]

Wild feuded with his trainee and friend Jason Reed in 2022.[101][44][102] After losing to Reed at ICW: Fear and Loathing XIV, Wild teased retirement before he turned heel and began to use the Andy Roberts name.[103][104][105] As ICW's contract with WWE expired and ICW's events became exclusive to FITE+,[106][107][108][109] Roberts was given a match for Leyton Buzzard's ICW World Heavyweight Championship at ICW: Get the F Out! in a Three Way Dance match with Damo.[110][111] Main-eventing first ICW's FITE+ PPV event,[112][113] Roberts eliminated Damo from the contest but was unable to win the title.[114][115][116][117]

Union of United Wrestling Alliances (2019–present)

After European Heavyweight Champion[118] Lionheart took his own life on 19 June 2019, [119][120] the title had to be vacated. On 20 July 2019, a final Pro Wrestling Elite event took place in a tribute to him[121][122] and the now vacant UEWA European Heavyweight Championship was put on the line in a triple threat match between Andy Wild, Alexander Dean and BT Gunn. Wild was victorious at PWE: 8th Anniversary Event and became the eleventh UEWA European Heavyweight Champion.[123][124]

In his ongoing four-plus year reign, Wild (later Andy Roberts) defended the title against Doug Williams, James Mason, Kenny Williams, Kez Evans, Wild Boar and others in a variety of UEWA affiliate and UEWA non-partner promotions, including British Championship Wrestling and Wolfgang's Iron Girders Pro Wrestling.[125][126][127] As of January 2023, Roberts has set multiple UEWA records for title defences and longevity[33][1][128][129]

WWE (2021, 2023)

Wild received his first WWE try-out in November 2017.[2][130] Wild later made a few appearances for WWE in 2021, competing on their NXT UK brand.[12][131][13] He debuted in a loss to Kenny Williams before teaming with Dan Moloney in two more losing efforts against Symbiosis and Dave Mastiff and Jack Starz.[132][133][134]

Andy Roberts also appeared as a security guard on the 30 June 2023 edition of WWE SmackDown during a brawl between The Bloodline.[135][11][136]

Fife Pro Wrestling Asylum

In addition to his in-ring wrestling career, since October 2019,[137] Roberts has also been the owner, promoter and head coach[16] of the Fife Pro Wrestling Asylum school and promotion.[15][7][138][139][140][141] FPWA have run collaborative events with New Wave Wrestling Academy in Gwent, Wales and Wolfgang's Iron Girders Pro Wrestling in Glasgow, Scotland.[1][128][129]

Personal Life

Andrew Inch lives in Fife, Scotland, with his partner, Hannah, with whom he has two children and runs their Fife Pro Wrestling Asylum business.[142][143][18][19] Inch was a car salesman[98] before going full-time in professional wrestling.[144][16]
