Anele Hammond née Mngadi (born 22 November 1967) is a South African academic.
Early life and education
She is an academic whose highest qualification is a multi-disciplinary Doctor of Philosophy degree.[1]. The University of Witwatersrand (“Wits”) published her dedication to her academic career in their local newspaper Wits Vuvuzela [2] which in turn resulted in The Sunday Times and other media houses taking an interest in her.[3][4][5]
Career
The City Press (South Africa), presented her as one of the most highly educated academics in South Africa.[6] Hammond, who is also an advocate of the High Court[7] specializing in social justice[8] was nominated as the first black woman chancellor by a body of students and alma mater of the University of Witwatersrand in 2018,[9] an opportunity she had to turn down because she was on the verge of launching her own Practical University in South Africa.[10]
Hammond chose Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape, South Africa as a small rural town to implement her first university as a proof of concept.
