Angatubichthys is an extinct genus of early ray-finned fish that lived during the late Permian in what is now the surroundings of Angatuba, São Paulo, Brazil [1]. The type and only species, Angatubichthys mendesi, is known from a flattened whole body (the holotype) plus three additional specimens showing details of skull and body morphology[1]. These specimens were recovered in the upper strata of the Corumbataí Formation, Paraná Basin, Brazil, which is considered to be middle to late Permian in age[2].
Classification[edit]
Angatubichthys has unknown affinities within the ray-finned fishes although some osteological features of the known specimens indicate a more derived position in the ray-finned fish tree than other late Paleozoic taxa.
