Angela Browne is a British educator, author, and equity strategist. She is the founder and director of Being Luminary, a consultancy that supports schools and organisations with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategy and leadership. Browne’s work focuses on ethical leadership, systemic equity, and wellbeing in education.

Career

Browne worked in English secondary education for almost two decades, including roles as head of English, senior leader, and headteacher. She served as principal of The Castle School in South Gloucestershire, which featured in the 2018 BBC Two documentary series School.[1][2]

Being Luminary

In 2018, Browne founded Being Luminary Ltd, an equity strategy consultancy offering leadership coaching, DEI audits, and professional learning for schools and international education organisations.[3] The company has collaborated with organisations including COBIS, FOBISIA, and BSME.[4][5][6]

Publications

Browne is the author of Lighting the Way: The Case for Ethical Leadership in Schools (Bloomsbury Education, 2020).[7] She contributed a chapter to 10% Braver: Inspiring Women to Lead Education (SAGE, 2019).[8] Browne is also developing a second book project, Re-Enchanted: How We Fell Out of Love with Equity Work and How to Fall Back In, exploring leadership and equity in education.[9]

Media and public speaking

Browne has spoken at national education events including the NAHT Inspiring Leadership Conference and the Church of England Foundation for Educational Leadership (CEFEL).[10][11] She delivered the TEDxNorwichED talk Creating Effective Schools that Nourish in 2018.[12] Browne has been interviewed by TES, Schools Week, and other publications, and has appeared on the podcasts What Works with Tara McMullin and LITerally with Lacey Sites.[13][14][15][16]

Recognition

Through Being Luminary, Browne has collaborated with Mission 44 on leadership and equity initiatives within education.[3] Her work with international school associations such as COBIS, BSME, and FOBISIA supports inclusive leadership development across global education networks.[4][6][5] She is affiliated with the Chartered College of Teaching and is a Council of International Schools accredited consultant.[17][18]
