Angela Groundwater

Angela Groundwater is a London based wallpaper designer. She moved to London in 1990 to work in film post production. After starting a family she began designing custom wallpapers and was awarded the Gold Prize at the 2015 London Design Awards being named as one of London’s top 100 designers.

Early Life and Background

Angela Groundwater was born on October 25, 1972 in Melbourne, Australia. She finished her education and began training as an illustrator at Griffith University graduating in 1991, she moved to London where, for some 10 years, she worked in film post production. Angela worked on films from Harry Potter and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, to V for Vendetta and the Da Vinci Code . She began designing bespoke luxury wallpaper in 1992 taking inspiration from London’s brutalist architecture and the stories told in and around her neighborhood in East London

Work

Her work has featured in various print and online media including the Wall Street Journal. In 2015 she was named one of London’s top 1000 designers and awarded Gold at the London Design Awards for her Wallpaper Pheasant designed in conjunction with Lady Ray. In 2016 she was commissioned to design the packaging for the luxury brand Royal Salute’s 200th anniversary whiskey .

Activism

Angela is involved in activism for the aged and this has led to inspiration for a number of her wallpapers and also to the exhibition of her work in Gallery’s and public spaces such as the Hackney Museum and Library
