Angelfish Software is a self-hosted web analytics tool which creates usage reports for websites and web-based applications using web log analysis. Angelfish can use web beacons or standard access log data to create reports.[1]
The software receives regular updates, provides a migration path for Urchin customers, and helps customers satisfy data protection laws by storing data in-house.
History
First released in 2013 after Google canceled Urchin Software, Angelfish was created in response to the dwindling options for self-hosted web analytics that use log analysis. [2] [3]
Angelfish was originally written in Perl and was ported to Go in 2023.
In present day, Angelfish is frequently cited as an alternative to Google Analytics. [4] [5] [6]
System Requirements
Angelfish is self-hosted server software: it uses an embedded web server and database, and keeps all customer data on the server instance.[7]
The product can be installed on recent versions of Windows and Linux. Angelfish does not have third-party software dependencies, aside from the operating system.[8]
The User Interface is accessed via a web browser, and data can be exported via the Angelfish API.
Usage
Web logs contain a wealth of information about how users interact with a website or web-based application. Even if users block web beacons or cookies, a history of each user's visit is contained in the web logs.
Angelfish uses data from web logs to provide detailed usage information:
- Client Info: browsers, platforms, usernames, IP addresses
- Pages & Documents accessed
- Marketing: external (inbound) and internal (in-site)
- Internal Search
- Site Errors: broken links, status codes
- Usage Cost Analysis
Angelfish customers are primarily in English-speaking countries and in Japan. [9]
