The Anglican Diocese of the Emmaus Way is a diocese of the Anglican Free Communion International comprising The United States, Canada, and the Bahamas.[1] Established in 2022, by Raul Toro, Jr.[2] the Presiding Bishop[3] of the Anglican Free Communion International, it was the first missionary diocese of the Anglican Free Communion International to be established with the mission of planting new churches within the Anglican Free Communion. Presently the Diocese of the Emmaus Way consists of 12 parishes[4], with a membership of almost 500 individuals.
The diocesan see, or headquarters city, is located in Odessa, Missouri, with administrative Offices located on Ohio 46 in Cortland,Ohio at Our Lady of Walsingham Anglican Church, a mission church of the diocese.
History
The Anglican Diocese of the Emmaus Way was established in March of 2022 under the direction the Right Reverend Doctor Justin Meier. The diocese was established as a jurisdiction of the Anglican Free Communion International. The founding churches and ministries of the Anglican Diocese of the Emmaus Way set out to spread the Gospel message to the United States and beyond. The Anglican Diocese of the Emmaus Way was established with the blessing of the Most Reverend Archbishop Raul Toro,Jr second Presiding Bishop of the Anglican Free Communion International. Archbishop Toro, a church planter himself, saw the need for a diocese to be established that focused on growing the church, by spreading the Gospel message to the ends of the Earth.
The Right Reverend Doctor Justin Meier, first Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of the Emmaus Way, along with several clergy members and churches formed the first eight churches and ministries of the diocese. These eight churches and ministries include: The Journey Anglican Cathedral in Odessa Missouri, Our Lady of Walsingham Anglican Church in Cortland Ohio, Saint Columba the Exile Anglican Abbey in Dayton Ohio, the Anglican Community of Friends in Knoxville Tennessee, The Journey Anglican Church Riverbend in Jackson Missouri, The Journey Anglican Church Lamoni in Lamoni Iowa, Trinity Abbey (Ecumenical) in Houston Texas, and the Pastoral Center at Sacred Wondering in Mequon Wisconsin.
