Angry Runs is a segment on Good Morning Football (GMFB)[1], a popular daily show about the National Football League (NFL) airing Monday through Friday on NFL Network.
The segment highlights the most physically dominating carries of the previous week's contests, as presented by Kyle Brandt[2] and voted on by Brandt and his fellow co-hosts Kay Adams (2017-2021), Nate Burleson (2017-2020), Jamie Erdahl (2022=present), Jason McCourty (2022-present), Peter Schrager (2017-present), as well as guest hosts.
Brandt was a starting running back and kick returner at Princeton. The school compiled a video highlight of his own "angry runs" in the spring of 2022[3]. After being part of MTV's Real World Chicago cast, he became an actor. His most prominent role was Philip Kiriakis, son of evil patriarch Victor, in the daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives[4].
History[edit]
2017[edit]
The "Angriest Runs" segment, as it was initially named, first ran during the 2017 season. The reigning champion faced contenders to determine the winner of each week, resulting in some players holding the title for multiple weeks.
2018[edit]
The champ vs. contenders format was retained for the 2018 season but a trophy styled after one earned after winning a bowling tournament was sent to the winner. The player then submitted a picture or video of themselves with their hardware to the show[5]. That tradition has carried on through the segment's history.
2019[edit]
During the 2019 preseason, Angry Runs and Burleson's "Toe Drag Swag" were shown as one highlight package.
The award process changed for the 2019 campaign, as a new honoree was named each week and the trophy was replaced with a crown[6]. The pictures sent to the show with the player wearing the crown were displayed in the "Ring of Anger."[7]
2020[edit]
A sceptre became the new reward for the angriest run of the week in 2020, and the winner also received an Angry Runs t-shirt. In 2020, player pictures with the scepter were "hung" on the virtual Inner Scepter World Tour board.[8]
After Super Bowl LV, the group awarded the scepter to Paulie, one of the dogs in that year's Puppy Bowl. Before the game, GMFB covered the angriest runs of its participants [9] Kansas City and Tampa Bay, during the 2020 season.
2021[edit]
During the 2021 preseason, the GMFB crew took a look back at the angriest runs[10] since the awards began in 2017.
2022[edit]
The 2022 campaign began with Brandt naming Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen as week's one winner[11].
