Angus Downie

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Angus Downie was born in Paisley, on the west coast of Scotland in August 1969. His family moved to Saudi Arabia followed by Nigeria, during which he went to Aberlour Preparatory School followed by Gordonstoun School (both in Scotland, where his sister also attended). He read Classics at University College, University of London, graduating in 1991. Working initially in the oil services industry in West Africa opened his eyes to the paradox of oil wealth and poverty, which led to completing his first MSc in Development Studies (majoring in economics), which was followed by an MSc in Finance (both at the University of London - SOAS and CeFIMS). He has worked in the field of finance and development economics at the Economist Intelligence Unit, the African Development Bank, the Institute of International Finance, Ecobank, and most recently the OPEC Fund for International Development. His current work is focused on how low income countries can escape the poverty trap, debt, sovereign risk, and debt sustainability (influenced heavily by fiscal and monetary policy). Financial programming, fiscal balances, and macro policy environments are of ongoing interest. Emeritus member of the East India Club, the Lansdowne Club, and ongoing member of the Rustics Society (cf. Caspar Fithen, PhD). Skiing and road bike cycling are keen interests, as is stewardship of the countryside guided by Iain Biggart (Kilchoan Estate).
